Arbetsförmedlingen (the Swedish public employment services) offers support to those who are looking for a job and don’t have another occupation. If you receive unemployment benefits, you are required to be in contact with Arbetsförmedlingen while looking for a job.
Arbetsförmedlingen offers a lot of services and support for job seekers. The support is personalized. Their services are free of charge and they have offices across the country. Visit their website for more information and to find your nearest office.
Register yourself and your qualifications on Arbetsförmedlingen’s website before visiting them. That way you can prepare your case for the administrator and you’ll be able to focus on job search and advice during your first meeting.
If you are unemployed and your residence permit is based on asylum or family reunion and you have been assigned a home county, you should register with Arbetsförmedlingen and participate in Etableringsuppdraget. Etableringsuppdraget is a way to learn Swedish, get closer to the job market and to be able to support yourself and earn a living In Sweden as quickly as possible. In Etableringsuppdraget you get access to various efforts and internships over the course of two years.
If you are an EU/EES-citizen, you can’t take part of Etableringsuppdraget. However, you can get in touch with a specialized Eures-advisor at Arbetsförmedlingen instead. Read more about it here.
